CAN MY FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER VOLUNTEER?

If any of your family or friends are coming to the race and willing to volunteer, please let me know. Volunteers are always needed to assist with parking and packet pickup race morning from 6:30 am until 8:45 am - after this they would be free to meet up with you at aid stations along the course!  Volunteers can also help with manning road crossings and aid stations.  All volunteers will get a free race shirt and earn race credits towards a future New River Trail Race.  Every 2 hours of volunteer time earns $15 towards a future race entry.  These credits are transferable, so if your friend or family member is not a runner, they can still earn you a discount for another race or next year's New River Trail Race. Please have your volunteer reach out via email at info@newrivertrail50k.com in order to be included on volunteer updates for 2024.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO THE RACE?

THIS IS A CUPLESS RACE so you will be REQUIRED to carry a collapsible cup or bottle for the race.

Other runners will use a running belt or vest, poles, trail shoes versus road shoes, 50k drop bag with extra clothing and socks.

WHAT TYPE OF SHOES SHOULD I WEAR?

I typically wear my road shoes for the trail. The trail is a crushed gravel in most areas. In some areas, it is a bit rocky. It’s a nice surface that is softer than running on the road.

I hope this helps you decide! You can always bring both pairs of shoes and test out the beginning of the trail to see what you prefer too.

WHAT'S THE ELEVATION GAIN IN EACH DISTANCE?

The total elevation gain for the 50k is approximately 666 feet. The 25k is approximately 333 feet of gain. It is significantly more flat and less steep of an incline compared to the Creeper Trail.
